hemorrhoid popping

Ganglion cysts can be painful, they can change shape, and they can restrict your hands general movement. It is not completely clear what causes them, but they can be extremely annoying!

Ganglion Cysts and the Symptoms They Cause

Ganglion cysts are generally lumps which form under the skin. They are usually found on the wrist, though they are also found on the fingers, the elbow, the feet and the ankles. So, whilst they are not only restricted to the hands, they are usually more common there.

They tend to form due to tissue forming around the joints, which then become inflamed and they swell up with lubricating fluid. It is not uncommon for them to increase in size, and they can also disappear completely, spontaneously. If you do notice that the cysts grow in size, you really do not have to worry. They are not cancerous therefore their size does not mean that they are dangerous.

If anything, Ganglion cysts are more uncomfortable than anything else, and they are usually quite painless. They usually just irritate more than anything else, and occasionally movement may be restricted. The cysts do not spread and they are not contagious so you cannot pass them onto anybody else, or onto other parts of the body.

In order to be diagnosed, a doctor may suggest an x ray or some other medical test. It is important to have the cysts looked at, as though it most probably is just a cyst, there are other conditions the lump could be a symptom of. For example, you could actually have bone spur or a tumor, but the most likely cause is definitely a Ganglion Cyst. So you really do need to make sure that you get the lump checked out as soon as possible.

How to Treat Ganglion Cysts

It is possible for Ganglion cysts to simply disappear on their own accord. However, usually they tend to stay on the hand and wrist for long periods of time, growing bigger as time goes on. Once the cysts become too large, it will start to put pressure on surrounding joints. This can then become painful and uncomfortable, and when this happens removal is usually the best method of treatment.

One method of treatment includes sticking a needle into the cyst, and removing the fluid that way. However, this is not always very effective as the fluid does not always pass through the needle easily. Also, it is thought that up to 50% of people, who use this treatment method, end up with the Ganglion cyst returning again at some point in their lives.

A rather strange treatment method which is also sometimes advised is to hit the cyst with something quite big such as a book, with the aim of popping it. This does tend to work and often the cyst pops and the lining of it is destroyed also which means that it does not tend to come back.

The most effective way of treating a Ganglion cyst overall however, is to remove it completely. Surgery usually involves shelling out the cyst, which mans that both the fluid and the sac are removed. However, although this is the most effective method of treatment, there still is a chance that the cyst will return later on in life.

Overall, there is no way to completely reduce the chance of a Ganglion cyst coming back once it has been removed. All you can do is treat it and hope for the best. Occasionally splints may need to be worn if you are waiting for the cyst to disappear by itself, though really they do not tend to disappear at all, if anything they grow bigger.

Always consult your doctor before undergoing any treatment and make sure you get a correct diagnosis to make sure that the cyst is really a cyst and it is nothing more sinister.

popping hemorrhoids

In a world of 24-hour pharmacies, easy to obtain prescriptions and over-the-counter medicine, it’s no surprise that the vast majority of the populace have become pill poppers. This phrase may have negative connotations, but it’s nevertheless true. For example, imagine you have a headache. What do you do about it? Put up and shut up, as the saying goes, or reach for that cheap and cheerful over-the-counter box of painkillers?

The answer, for most, is that they reach for the pills. Nowadays, there are pills for everything – there are even pills to counter-act the side effects of other pills. It’s so simple and easy; pop a couple of small tablets from a foil blister pack, wash down with water, and voila! Everything is better. Or at least, that’s what the pharmaceutical companies would have you believe.

However, no painkiller is without its problems. There is a tendency for people to assume that if they can buy something without prescription it is relatively safe, but this is not the case. N-SAIDS, the primary drugs used for relieving muscular pain, can cause stomach ulcers if taken too often. Pop something containing codeine if you have a headache and you could find you feel worse than you did before, and probably lightheaded and dizzy, too. No drug, no matter how safe the packaging and manufacturers make it out to be, is completely safe.

Those who have experienced the unpleasant side effects of supposedly harmless pain medication will soon begin to seek other ways of banishing everyday pain problems. This often propels people into the hands of the so-called herbal market, replacing chemical tablets with those associated with more natural remedies. Yet one has to wonder… can they ever be as effective?

One of the biggest issues regarding herbal painkillers – as well as other, non-pill methods of pain relief – is that they are never as scrutinized as their chemical pill cousins. Chemical pills manufactured by pharmaceutical companies are subjected to endless rounds of testing, both for efficacy and for side effects. Only when declared safe are they released onto the medical market. The same rigorous testing is rarely applied to herbal remedies, largely because of their natural properties – properties which, we are lead to believe, mean they are safer.

In truth, herbal remedies are less likely to cause unwarranted side effects than those of a chemical nature – hence the lesser restrictions on their sale to the general public. Yet this advantage quickly changes itself, in that the lack of testing also means a lack of clinical data to analyze. It is therefore extremely difficult to understand if these so-called herbal painkillers actually do what they’re supposed to. Without full clinical trials, one can never be sure.

So much of herbal medicine is balanced on folklore and personal experience. One person has a friend tell them ‘this’ particular herbal remedy works, and they naturally believe their friend – so they try it for themselves. They then either find themselves sorely – quite literally – disappointed, or it does work. Let’s say for a moment that the herbal remedy does indeed rid them of their pain – is it genuine, or is it a psychological response whereby something ‘works’ because they believe it will? This is known as the placebo effect, and is the main way conventional doctors dismiss the claims of herbal remedies.

Essentially, there is no way of knowing if anything aside from conventional, chemical drugs can actually rid a person of pain. Perhaps the best method is experimentation – you may find one herbal remedy works better for you than others.

However, the most effective type of pain management is to restrict what you take painkillers for. The more you take conventional painkillers, the less effective they become. If you’re popping the Advil for a mild headache, the drug is not going to be as useful when you really need it – such as when you’ve had a tooth out, or broken a bone. This kind of tolerance lends itself to increasing the chances of side effects from painkillers; the very thing that turns most people toward herbal medicine in the first instance.

The less you take a chemical painkiller, the more effective each dose will be. Try and rate your pain on a scale of 1 to 10 – 10 being a huge accident with severe injuries that are possibly life-threatening. A five would be a bad toothache following an extraction. If the pain you are experiencing rates any lower than a five, try not to take any painkillers. The problem is, this simple and easy solution is actually nothing of the sort. The only way to ensure painkillers continue to be effective and do not have negative connotations on your health is to limit the times you take them. This, and no herbal remedy, is as close as you will probably come to a pain-free-pill-free life.

internal hemroid medicine

Hemorrhoids, which are more commonly referred to as Piles can be a quite nasty and annoying condition, however they are not usually fatal. When varicosity and inflammation of the blood vessels in and around the rectal area occurs, this is referred to as hemorrhoids.

There are several hemorrhoid causes that affect both men and women that generally occur between the ages of forty five and sixty five. Statistics show that half of America alone may experience hemorrhoids by the time they are fifty. One of the most common hemorrhoid causes is weak walls in the tissue of the rectal area, this can be derived from several contributors such as:

  1. Constipation and explosive diarrhea.
  2. Hard stools, frequent straining, or waiting to long to go to the toilet.
  3. Sitting or standing in one place for extended periods of time.
  4. Pregnancy and child baring.
  5. A very poor diet, insufficient fiber and not drinking adequate amounts of water on a regular basis.
  6. To much Lactic Acid. Lactic acid causes added strain on your sphincter muscles as they contract and open during a bowel movement.
  7. Being overweight will also put unnecessary much pressure on the delicate anal veins.

There are two basic classes of hemorrhoids, internal hemorrhoids and external hemorrhoids.

External hemorrhoids appear on the outside of the rectal area itself and are much easier to notice. They are usually the most painful and get more irritated by hard bowel movements, as well as exposure to clothing and other outer abrasives. External hemorrhoids often swell and can become very itchy, this is a very common symptom.

Internal hemorrhoids are inside the anus. This type is usually the least painful. Often a person will not even be aware that they have them, as there is no real discomfort.

However, if they rupture bleeding can occur, which may then lead to more serious hemorrhoid symptoms. A more serious type of internal hemorrhoid is Prolapsed hemorrhoids. Prolapsed hemorrhoids are internal hemorrhoids that become swollen and eventually protrude outside the anus. The sphincter muscle clasps down and prevents it from going back inside. If the blood supply diminishes the prolapsed hemorrhoid then becomes a strangulated hemorrhoid. Strangulated hemorrhoids often become coagulated. A hard lump forms that is very painful and extremely uncomfortable.

hemorrhoid last

Dealing with hemorrhoids during last trimester in pregnancy??

After I had my first child I started having problems with hemorrhoids and then it got better because I used prescribed medication. They came back very rarely but now I am pregnant again and in my last trimester and I dont know what do to. My doctor told me preparation H but that just doesnt work. Any suggestions???

Lots of fluids, maybe some prunes, a good stool softener…not something to make you go but something that makes you go easier, no straining on stool, a good amount of fiber in diet, keep using medicine, try aloe vera to stop any itching, walk a lot after meals(will help pregnancy, too) unless doctor says NO. If you do all these things for a week and there’s no relief you may need a hemorrhoidectomy. Sure cure!

banding hemorrhoids pain

It is highly important that if you suffer from irritating symptoms, to see a hemorrhoid doctor immediately. In doing so, you will be able to find ways to cure and treat the problem quickly and effectively before it gets out of hand.

Hemorrhoids are swollen veins around the anus and rectum area caused by chronic constipation, straining during a bowel movement, excessive coughing, sitting for long periods of time and obesity. Some symptoms of hemorrhoids are itching, irritation or lumps around the anus, as well as blood in the stool or on the toilet paper after wiping.

If you find blood, it is important to talk with a hemorrhoid doctor for proper diagnosis. Blood does not necessarily mean you have hemorrhoids. The blood could be from another condition such as a digestive disease or colorectal cancer.

Hemorrhoid doctors will complete an exam to see if you suffer from hemorrhoids. In a nutshell, your doctor will examine the rectum and anus checking for swollen blood vessels. The doctor may also conduct an exam using a gloved and lubricated finger to check for any other abnormalities.

For extra precaution, your hemorrhoid doctor should also conduct a colonoscopy as well as a sigmoidoscopy to rule out other causes of gastrointestinal bleeding. This is to ensure that you are indeed suffering from hemorrhoids.

In most cases, hemorrhoid doctors will suggest an increase in fiber and fluids into your diet. Drinking plenty of water and having a fiber-enriched diet results in softer stool. This makes it easier to have constipation-free bowel movements, which keeps pressure off the anus. Less pressure decreases the risk of hemorrhoid protrusion.

There are other mild treatments your hemorrhoid doctor might tell you about as well. Some basic home remedies that can bring about relief are warm baths and drinking chamomile tea. The warm water will help soothe, while the chamomile works at reducing inflammation of the veins. There are also wide arrays of over-the-counter creams that can reduce pain as well.

In more severe cases, some hemorrhoid doctors may suggest surgery such as rubber band ligation, sclerotherapy, infrared coagulation or a hemorrhoidectomy. With this said, these are not your only options for relief.

Many all-natural remedies can cure hemorrhoids just as, if not more effectively than over-the-counter treatments and surgery. Using natural vitamins, minerals and herbs is a low-risk, side effect-free way to cure hemorrhoids completely. With this said, before trying any treatment, even all-natural ones, it is wise to speak with your hemorrhoid doctor.

Vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin E and Zinc work wonders at restoring your digestive system and soothing any discomfort you suffer from. Other herbs that treat hemorrhoid inflammation and pain are Butcher’s Broom, bilberry, horse chestnut, cayenne and plantain. While all these herbs work well individually, finding a supplement that offers a combination of some, if not all of these ingredients will bring about optimum results.

Taking an all-natural supplement allows these herbs to enter the blood stream, curing your hemorrhoids from the inside out and in many cases, keeping hemorrhoid recurrences at bay.

As mentioned earlier, hemorrhoid doctors are well equipped to diagnose and treat your condition. However, once your doctor is certain that you are suffering from hemorrhoids, weigh out all of your options before starting treatment. Everyone is different. Therefore, what may work for some may not be the right form of treatment for you.

hemorrhoid treatment and pregnancy

There are few diseases that are more embarrassing than hemorrhoids. The pain, the smell, and the ick: but it doesn’t have to be that way.

Hemorrhoids come because of strain on the blood vessels around the anus. This can happen during pregnancy, heavy lifting, during a time of constipation, or it can be a chronic condition.

For most sufferers, and we are told that nearly 50% of the adult population will get hemorrhoids at some time, hemorrhoids will come and go without major symptoms. For others it is not so easy – perhaps they will not treat the hemorrhoids soon enough and they will become serious – pain, bleeding, and anal leakage. Embarrassment enters in and the suffering becomes not only physical but emotional. The sufferer may feel he cannot properly clean himself and avoid company.

Always seek medical advice, but here are some tips for you. Practice these early and nip hemorrhoids in the bud.

  1. If you are having trouble cleaning yourself, use Witch Hazel and pour a little on your toilet paper. This will not only help clean but Witch Hazel is an astringent which means it will help shrink the hemorrhoids. Witch Hazel is available for a couple of bucks at almost all pharmacy’s.
  2. Sitz Baths – get some Epsom Salts and dissolve 2 cups in a shallow bath of warm water (there are also attachments for your toilet). Sit in the water with your knees up to your chest so that your buttocks open and allow the water to soothe the hemorrhoids. Soak 10 to 20 minutes several times a day.
  3. Increase fiber in your diet. This means vegetables and fruits – there is no better source. Begin by adding a red apple a day. There is not a truer saying than “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Apples are a great source not only of fiber but also of the kinds of nutrients that will reinforce the blood vessels all over your body. The fiber will soften the stools, the nutrition will strengthen the vessels around the anus.

Remember to keep the area dry and clean and get that fiber up. Civilization has brought on many medical conditions in our lives and hemorrhoids is just one. Adding fiber and nutrients back into your diet goes a long way toward prevention of this painful, depressing condition. Seek your doctor’s advice but effective home treatment of hemorrhoids is possible and is done all the time.

Get hemorrhoids out of your life with effective hemorrhoids home treatment. Take action at the earliest symptoms and avoid the pain and embarrassment that hemorrhoid sufferers endure. Visit http://www.NaturalHemorrhoidTreatment.org for more tips and information to cure your hemorrhoids.

A Home Health Agency can help you heal your wounds and live a healthier, fuller life. Home health is a great treatment option because there are often fewer microbes or pathogens in the home than in a hospital or other institution treating large numbers of sick and infected people.

There can be serious consequences if wounds are neglected or do not heal, such as:

• The tissue around the wound can die (necrosis) which could potentially lead to amputation of a foot, leg or arm.

• The wound could turn into a septic infection which could potentially cause death.

There are only 4800 nurses with the Wound Ostomy Continence Specialty credential in the United States. Texoma Home Health is pleased to have Patricia Martinez-Morales on staff with this credential. Patricia and other medical staff can provide you with the following services:

• Education on diet and care. Through education, a Wound Ostomy Continence (WOC) nurse can help empower patients to participate in their own care, and be assured of their ability to continue in their activities of daily living. For example, a nurse can advise on nutrition to help your wounds heal. Did you know extra protein helps and zinc hinders wounds healing? Also, a nurse can explain why it’s important to not smoke because smoking clamps down vascular flow so blood doesn’t reach the wound for healing.

• Wound care.A Home Health agency can regularly clean and treat your wound to help it heal. This can include establishing a program for evidence based topical therapy, such as wound VAC therapy or conservative sharp debridement when ordered and indicated. Sometimes, cauterization hypertrophic granulations tissue and closed wound edges is also ordered and indicated.

• Diabetic foot and nail care if necessary. You may find that wounds on your body heal more slowly when you have diabetes. This is one reason some Home Health agencies specialize in wound treatment. They can assess sensorimotor, vascular and skin/nail status and can clip nails and pare corns and calluses in a way that avoids injuries.

• Ostomy management if necessary. An ostomy refers to the surgically created opening in the body for the discharge of body wastes. A nurse can help establish an effective pouching system and educate you on self-care and lifestyle issues. They can provide supportive counseling and rehabilitative care and manage peristomal complications if needed.

• Fistula management, percutaneous (medical procedure where access to inner organs or other tissue is done via needle-puncture) tube management, and incontinence management.

One Case Manager tells this rewarding story of how Texoma Home Health helped one of her patients manage her wound.

When Jane, an 82 year old woman, had back surgery, she went to a skilled facility to recuperate.

Unfortunately, the wound in her back opened up and she developed a fever. The wound became as deep as a fist in her back. She went back to the hospital for immediate treatment. Then Jane was sent home with a prescription for home health and wound VAC therapy.

The nurse worked with Jane, treating the wound and educating her on diet. Since Jane couldn’t see the wound, the nurse showed her pictures so she could see the healing progress.

Within three months, the wound was healed. Jane was walking and living a normal healthy life.

People with chronic wounds often don’t understand why their wound isn’t healing. A Home Health nurse can work with your doctor to assess the reasons why your wound may not be healing and develop a customized plan of care for you.
